A crook is a crook is a crook.
The DOJ followed the leads, gathered the evidence, and obtained an indictment. The guy entered a plea of not guilty and is now awaiting trial. This is how the justice system works. I’m an independent. I don’t vote party. I vote people. As such, I feel a need to point out what isn’t being discussed. I don’t see is democrats rallying together to “march in lockstep” and rand defend the guy. I hear crickets. I don’t see democrats accusing the republicans of a conspiracy involving massive (impossible) amounts of manufactured evidence. I don’t see a DOJ infested with bias seeking […]
Using your work to teach isn’t a copyright violation.
….And just as I said previously, these people are simply trying to get rich and gain fame from AI (otherwise referred to as Learning Language Models or LLaMA). You can’t publish things and then claim copyright violation because it was used to educate even if it’s an AI. Copyright protects creators from having their work replicated, not from being used to teach. Judge Chhabria just ruled in a Class Action suit against Meta and a few others, calling it “nonsensical”. He also made the following points in his ruling: There is no way to understand the LLaMA models themselves as […]
Copyright Confusion
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/openai-and-microsoft-hit-with-copyright-lawsuit-from-non-fiction-authors/ar-AA1klx0H Copyright is complicated and apparently a lot of people don’t understand the role that it plays in the grand scheme of things. Rather than get into the details of the law, it makes a lot more sense to simply look at how the courts have consistently ruled in the past. Taking that approach, it becomes clear that in order to win a copyright case such as this, the authors will need to prove that through the use of their work in training AI, they are being deprived of money that they would otherwise earn from their work if it […]
Here’s how this will play out…
I see the arguments on both sides. The fact is that if you support the guy, you’ll see reasons to not jail him for a bond violation. If you don’t, you’ll see reasons to jail him. What I haven’t seen any of the news organizations do is link to the actual Motion To Revoke Bond document, review the terms of the bond release, and compare it to the specific examples. But that’s why I’m here! To cut through all the BULLSHIT and let you know how it really is. Here’s the Motion to Revoke Bond. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24168746-harrison-floyd-bond-revoke The important info is […]
